Who is Old Chingu?

Old Friend. More than a musician. He creates songs with purpose.

Every studio session is a family occasion.

Make it happen.

One of my top strengths is activator. “They want to do things now rather than simply talk about them”. Looking back, it all makes sense.

In 2019, I was deep in my musical journey. I worked relentlessly in my mom’s basement with my best friend and producer Tyler Parker. Almost every night we were steadily writing songs and recording… I probably got hundreds of texts from my mom to QUIET DOWN. We’d listen to multiple mixes at the neighborhood gym parking lot. Hours of enjoyment and the pursuit of creative expression often led to late nights that turned into surprising sunrises.

We released over 20 singles by then, posted daily on multiple social media, and grew a loyal fanbase. During that time, I was connecting with a lot of musicians online. And I talked to this one guy who said he’d pull up to Maryland all the way from North Carolina. I thought that was odd but I’m more of a “let’s see that action” type of person…

Fast forward to the end of 2020, COVID was still severely present and Monty (the musician I met online) expressed an opportunity to live with him and other creatives in Winston-Salem, NC.

…so I did what any other millennial / gen z person would do- I said “let’s get it”!

We put on successful live streams, and local shows, and sold merch. We used our skills in marketing, connection, and creativity to cultivate a movement. Our combo was unstoppable.

At the end of our lease in 2022, we moved- but not apart. Monty got married, and Jae also got hitched. Tyler and I decided to go back to MD. Interested in our 5 guy, creative, family dynamic? Read my blog.

Even though we now live in different states, I’ll never forget the moments that shaped who we are today.

The future.

There are many goals and success metrics I used to focus on so dearly- some even say we already did succeed as independent musicians. But these are my current priorities.

  1. Create music A-Z myself.

I’ve always had help recording, producing, and mixing my music. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll gladly focus on what I’m good at and collaborate often, but I need to start from the basics again. Consistently play piano, record myself, and figure out my system. I will work with teachers and be kept accountable for my progress.

  2. Performance opportunities.

I love networking and seeing how I can connect with like-minded individuals. I will use my strengths to open doors for more performances locally. I recently moved to TN, so I hope to grow fresh roots and learn from the incredible musicians in this area. Still in touch with my DMV venues and coordinators, but I need to reach out.

  3. Release music and strategize.

Drop music that I love. All kinds. Not limiting to myself or others. I’m using Old Chingu as a means to experiment and get better. I probably have 20+ songs finished I haven’t released yet. But the rollout is quite important. So I’ll be relearning new advertising campaign tools and methods. Incorporating what I feel is most genuine to my brand.

My biggest fears are letting time pass by and not doing everything in my power to honor God. I will be using my talents, passions, and strengths to my fullest potential.
